Research Specialisation

My doctoral research focused on intertextuality and ideology in interpreter-mediated communication, using a corpus of German to English simultaneous interpretations from the European Parliament. Corpus analysis concentrated on intertextuality, lexical repetition of key institutional terms, and metaphor strings characteristic of EU institutional hegemony.  I am currently working on the role of simultaneous interpreting in adversarial multilingual settings with particular focus on the interplay between institutional hegemony and interpreter agency in these settings.

Research Students

I am currently co-supervisor for one PhD student, Maria A. Aguilar Solano, who is working on the prestige and social status of the medical Interpreter in Spanish hospitals from a Bourdieusian perspective. I am interested in co-supervising students specialising in all forms of interpreting.
