Daniela Ponzio, freelance translator

Daniela
Daniela graduated in 2002 and is a freelance translator, specialising in legal and technical fields.

I had a degree in Modern Languages (English & French) from the University of Messina, Italy. I could speak Italian, English and French. I also had some experience in proofreading and text revision for the Marketing Department of an insurance company (CGU) in Brussels. While studying languages I developed an interest in translation which was strengthened by my work experience and by a short course (6 months) that I attended at the University of Brussels.

Manchester is the place to be if you are a student; the University is very organized and the town is full of cultural attractions. The library was impressive and I appreciated the fact that the structure of the course and the faculty were very open and flexible and encouraged me to pursue my academic interests.

Since graduation I have been working as a freelance translator for clients in Greece, Italy and England, my areas of specialization being legal and technical texts. I have also worked as a Translation Project Manager for translation agencies in Athens and Milan.

I enjoy working as a translator because it is a challenging and creative profession; it is never boring as it involves working with diverse disciplines and researching interesting topics. Being a freelancer also helps me in balancing my private and professional life.
