Postgraduate funding

The School of Languages, Linguistics and Cultures offered one AHRC Doctoral Studentship and one AHRC Professional Preparation Masters Studentship to outstanding UK/EU students of translation or interpreting starting their studies in September 2011. Fee bursaries were also awarded to PhD students with exceptional track records and research potential. 

Mona Baker - In Other Words

To mark the publication of the second edition of In Other Words: A Coursebook on Translation, its author, Prof. Mona Baker, is interviewed by Dr Morven Beaton-Thome about the changes and additions to the new edition.

Research Models conference

Foucault's pendulum CTIS, together with the Centre for Intercultural Studies, University College London, hosted the Research Models in Translation Studies II conference from 29 April to 2 May 2011. Visit the conference website for more details.

Rising Star award

catherine mansfield

Catherine Mansfield, MATIS student in 2009-10, won the North-West Translators' Network's inaugural Rising Star award. Catherine is an accomplished translator from Spanish to English and a freelance writer for Booktrust's Translated Fiction website.
