Luciana - 1st Year Translation and Intercultural Studies PhD
What was your background before you came to study at the University of Manchester?
I have 2 undergraduate degrees: Communication (emphasis in Advertisement) and Translation (English). I also have a Masters in Translation Studies. All these courses were taken in Brazil.
Why did you choose to study this particular degree?
Firstly because I really want to research the subject I am studying (translation of lyrics) and secondly I intend to go into the academic world as a lecturer along with the work as a translator.
Why did you choose to come to The University of Manchester?
I chose the University of Manchester because it is one of the greatest universities in the world and the lecturers in my department are very well thought of in the area. I thought the University of Manchester would be the perfect environment to develop my work.
Why did you choose Manchester as a city?
I chose Manchester because it is closed related with my corpora, which consists of Morrissey's and Ian Curtis' lyrics. The city is vibrant and alive but at the same time gives me the tranquility to study.
What has been the highlight of your course so far?
My supervisor is the best supervisor I have ever had. He is sensitive and very helpful. His advice is precise and he never leaves me the impression that I am working alone.
