Who are we?
The Undergraduate team consists of 13 members of staff, all of whom have been working in University administration supporting students and staff for a number of years. Each subject area or department in the School is supported by an Undergraduate Support Officer (see lists below). Three of the Undergraduate Support Officers are also dedicated to supporting degree programmes that are jointly administered with Manchester Business School (A Modern Language and Business and Management), the School of Social Sciences (European Studies and Modern Languages) and the School of Arts, Histories and Cultures (Screen Studies and a Modern Language, History and a Modern Language, History of Art and a Modern Language, English Literature and a Modern Language, American and Latin American Studies). The Undergraduate Coordinator, supports School-level matters such as administration for examinations, mitigating circumstances and undergraduate programmes in general. We also have a Residence Abroad Coordinator, dedicated solely to the administration involved in supporting students preparing for and undertaking residence abroad and incoming Erasmus or visiting students. The team is managed by the Undergraduate Manager.
All members of the team are very familiar with the processes and requirements of programmes within the School and will be able to advise and support you regarding regulations, staff availability, timetable, etc. and to advise you on how to manage any difficulties you may have and which University support services you should contact to obtain further more specialised and targeted help, if necessary.
The team exists within the wider Directorate of Undergraduate Affairs in the School. The members of academic staff responsible for specialised areas in undergraduate matters are:
- Professor Matthew Jefferies , Director of Undergraduate Studies (matthew.jefferies@manchester.ac.uk)
- Dr Cathy Gelbin , Chair of the Examinations Committee (cathy.gelbin@manchester.ac.uk)
- Dr Wiebke Brockhaus-Grand , Chair of the Residence Abroad and Exchanges Committee (wiebke.brockhaus-grand@manchester.ac.uk)
