Institute for Transnational Studies

The Institute for Transnational Studies in Languages, Linguistics and Cultures (ITSLCC) aims to promote the collaborative development of distinctive approaches to new ideas on flows of people, concepts, words, structures and cultural capital. The ITSLCC brings together a cluster of research centres and groupings, some of which are initiatives which involve partnerships with the School of Arts, Histories and Cultures and with the School of Social Sciences. Of especial importance is close collaboration with the Research Institute for Cosmopolitan Cultures (RICC),

The Institute for Linguistics and Language Studies

The Institute for Linguistics and Language Studies (ILLS) brings together linguists from across the School of Languages, Linguistics and Cultures. Linguists in ILLS conduct research in most areas of linguistics and language study, taking an active interest in an unusually wide range of theoretical models.  Our research areas include field linguistics and language documentation, typology, syntax, language contact and creoles, sociolinguistics and dialectology, historical linguistics, phonetics and phonology, morphology, semantics, pragmatics and corpus and computational linguistics.
