PhD title: Investigating the Figural: Lyotard's writings on art
Supervisors: David Lomas: (Art History) & Dee Reynolds (French Studies)
Main Discipline areas: History and Theory of Contemporary Art.
Research specialism
Current Doctoral research focuses on the concept of the figural, as used principally by Jean-François Lyotard in his writings from the early 1970s, contextualised by the writings of Kristeva and Deleuze and Guattari from the same period. The thesis aims to identify aspects of the figural which continue to perform a critical function within contemporary art theory and practice.
