The Institute for Linguistics and Language Studies holds seminars for staff and postgraduates during term-time on Tuesdays, from 4 to 5 pm, in the LLC School Boardroom (W3.13) in the Samuel Alexander Building unless otherwise specified, followed by a wine reception. The organisers for 2011-12 are Elke Philburn and Farah Nazir.

Langwidge Sandwidge

Our informal lunchtime seminar with an English Language/Linguistics focus, the Langwidge Sandwidge, is on Tuesdays from 1.00 to 2.00 pm in A.202, Samuel Alexander Building.  Hot and cold drinks and biscuits are provided;  bring your own sandwiches. The organisers for 2011-12 are Nuria Yáñez-Bouza and .

Research Training in Linguistics at the Universities of Manchester and Salford

Our programme offers 4 types of research training over a wide range of areas in linguistics:

  1. training in linguistics methodology - e.g. statistics, experimental methods, field linguistics
  2. training and updating knowledge in theoretical paradigms which support students' research
  3. training and updating knowledge in the linguistic properties of particular languages
  4. training in linguistics specific transferrable skills - e.g. publishing in linguistics, writing linguistics abstracts, presentation skills

This training is delivered through workshops held at Salford (UoS) and Manchester (UoM).
