Undergraduate study

We offer single honours and joint honours degrees in language-based studies, covering a wide range of modern foreign languages, English language, and linguistics. Most of the subjects we teach can be studied from beginner's level, or you could also continue studying subjects you are already familiar with from advanced level (A-level or equivalent). You study language and society from various perspectives, such as linguistics, translation studies, culture studies, history and politics. Residence abroad forms an important part of our degree programmes.  If you study linguistics or English language as part of a three-year degree programme, you have the option of undertaking a study exchange at one of our partner institutions in North America, Australia, or Asia. If you study one or more modern foreign languages as part of a four-year degree programme, a period of residence abroad is compulsory and usually takes place in the third year.
