I've applied...What happens next?

How long will I have to wait for a decision?

We receive a large number of applications but do work hard to make a decision on each application as soon as possible.

Middle Eastern Studies applicants: the interview is an integral part of the decision-making process. It will take a little longer for your application to be processed, for you to be invited and attend interview and for a final decision to be made.  You should receive a decision shortly after you have attended the interview and visit day.  If you are unable to attend an interview day we may be able to interview over the telephone.

Modern Languages and Linguistics & English Language applicants: a decision will be made as soon as is possible following receipt of your application.  If an offer is made you will receive confirmation in writing from us together with an invitation to visit the School as part of an informal Visit Day.

Visit Days are held from November to March.

When and how will I know whether I've got an offer?

There are two types of offers: conditional and unconditional. Most candidates are made conditional offers which stipulate that they must achieve certain grades at A Level, or other appropriate examinations.  Some candidates, for example those who have already completed A Levels, or other appropriate examinations, may be made unconditional offers for which there are no conditions attached.

You can find out whether we have made a decision on your application by using UCAS tracker (see www.ucas.co.uk for further details).  We will also write to you to confirm our decision if an offer is made.

What do I do next?

If we have made you an offer, you need to consider whether or not you wish to accept it as your "firm" or "insurance" choice, or decline it.  Full details on this process are available on the UCAS website.

What should I do if I want to defer?

If you decide that you may want to defer starting your degree programme until the following year, you should contact us as soon as possible. You will be asked to write to us confirming that you wish to defer entry; we will then confirm whether this is possible and make the necessary arrangements.

What should I do if I want to change the course I have applied for?

If you decide that you want to change the degree programme you have applied for you should contact us as soon as possible. You will be asked to write to us confirming that you wish to change programme; we will then confirm whether this is possible and make the necessary arrangements.
