I have been out of study for a while, do I still need to have A Levels?

We welcome applications from mature candidates. It is not always necessary for mature applicants to meet the standard entry requirements.  We are pleased to receive applications from candidates taking appropriate Access courses; an offer may be made conditional upon your success in that course. The School UG Admissions team will also take into account relevant background and experience when assessing your application.

I am thinking of dropping on of my AS Level subjects when I go on to A2 but I'm not sure which one would be best to lose for the course I want to do?

As long as you fulfil the requirements for the degree programme you intend to study, the "extra" subject is less important to us.  We are happy to accept General Studies A Level.

I would like to study 3 languages.  Is this possible? If not, how can I avoid losing the 3rd language?

Unfortunately, it isn't possible to study three languages at undergraduate level at Manchester.  However, there are ways to keep your third language going.  We have a fully equipped Language Centre with state of the art electronic and printed resources to help you learn a new language or maintain an existing one.  We also have LEAP (Language Experience for All People) which provides language teaching for students from other disciplines (Law, Medicine, Engineering etc). Students taking single honours programmes may be able to take LEAP courses as part of their ''free choice'' course credits.  Others may choose to pay for LEAP courses as an "extra".

What if I am studying something other than A-Levels?

Entry criteria for alternative qualifications are available on our individual course listings.  If your qualification is not listed then please contact ug.languages@manchester.ac.uk and we will assess your qualification on an individual basis.
