Announcement on Residence Abroad Fees 2012-13
As a token of its commitment to support languages and encourage students to take up opportunities to spend a year abroad, the School is pleased to confirm that fees for the year abroad will be a maximum of £1500 for those students entering into first year this coming September 2012.
Residence Abroad Fees for current students
Home/EU students undertaking a period of Erasmus study, an Erasmus work placement or a combination of Erasmus study and Erasmus work for at least a 6 month (24 weeks) period do not currently pay fees to the University of Manchester or, if applicable, their host university. Currently, the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (DBIS) covers the cost of your tuition fees to Manchester because the DBIS wants to encourage more students in the UK to participate in the Erasmus scheme. However, there is no guarantee that this will continue to be the case for students undertaking a period of residence abroad beyond the 2012-2013 academic year.
All other home/EU students undertaking a period of residence abroad pay the University of Manchester a reduced residence abroad fee (currently £1725). They are not required to pay course fees to their host institution.
International students
International students studying abroad or working abroad are currently required to pay 50% of the appropriate tuition fee due.
Financial Support
- Under the Erasmus study and work scheme students are provided with a grant for each month. The size of this grant varies from year to year.
- Those students who undertake a compulsory 8 week vacation period abroad are currently entitled to apply for a grant of up to £600 from the School to cover the cost of their approved activity.
