Computer resources for linguists

A guide for the Department of Linguistics and English Language
(and other members of the Institute for Linguistics and Language Studies)

Notes

Navigate to different sections via the links at the left.

Some resources mentioned are available only to staff and students of the University of Manchester.

The following shortened URL (not case-sensitive)   http://tinyurl.com/CompRes   will also find these pages.

On campus

A number of launch shortcuts are gathered into a single menu on cluster PCs (and other PCs with the CLIP image), found by following
Start | All programs | Programs - Faculty | Faculty of Humanities | Linguistic Resources.

Off campus

Many web-based services will work fine off-campus. Those web services authenticated from a campus IP address will work if you install the VPN ('virtual private network') client on a home computer. However, programs which don't use a browser are not accessible from outside the university, and stored corpora only if you use the VPN and also log in via Novell.
