Research

Research in French Studies covers a wide range: from medieval manuscripts to contemporary cinema and dance; from culture and society to modern linguistics. Besides being acknowledged as high-quality in its own right, this research ensures a dynamic environment. Numerous research grants secured by staff include 'Watching Dance: Kinesthetic Empathy' (with University of Glasgow, York St John University and Imperial College London), funded by AHRC 2008-2011;  'Post-Colonial Negotiations: Visualising the Franco-Algerian Relationship in the Post-War Period' (with University of Durham),  funded by AHRC 2008-2011, and a Visiting Professorship awarded to Professor Martine Joly (Université Michel de Montaigne-Bordeaux III) by the Leverhulme Trust, February - April 2008.
